Dodik downplays RS secession intentions

29/08/2008

SARAJEVO, Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) -- Republika Srpska (RS) Prime Minister Milorad Dodik on Thursday (August 28th) downplayed fears RS could declare independence. In an interview with the Novi Sad daily Dnevnik, Dodik said the RS government will continue to adhere to the Dayton Peace Accords. He added, though, that he would not hesitate to initiate secession if Bosniak politicians try to abolish RS.

"If Sarajevo politicians show the political will and clearly and unambiguously state that the RS and the Serb people are wanted in a decentralised, democratic, and most importantly, economically prosperous BiH, then such a union is acceptable to us," Dodik said. (Dnevnik, B92, RTRS - 28/08/08)
