Serbia hands over war crimes indictee Zupljanin to The Hague

THE HAGUE, The Netherlands -- Bosnian Serb war crimes indictee Stojan Zupljanin is in Scheveningen prison on Sunday (June 22nd), a day after Serbia handed him over to The Hague war crimes tribunal. He is charged with alleged involvement in crimes against Muslims and Croats during the 1992-1995 conflict in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). He faces 12 counts of persecution, extermination and murder, torture, harsh treatment, inhumane acts, deportation and wanton destruction of villages and religious and cultural buildings. Zupljanin, 56, was arrested on June 11th in the Serbian town of Pancevo. (AFP, DPA, RTS, Tanjug, Beta - 21/06/08)
